General

Although Sandwich is only a small town, it is surprisingly well appointed with numerous local businesses catering for the needs of local residents, the enormous work force at Pfizer, and tourists alike. Whatever you want or need, there is a good chance you will find it available in town, or not far away.

Shops

Shopping in Sandwich is a real pleasure. The unhurried pace and lack of  jostling crowds encourage a relaxing visit. The numerous galleries, gift and antique  shops  often yield that elusive unusual present or souvenir. The assistants are often owners too, with a real knowledge of their wares and are helpful advisors. Some of the smaller shops are run single-handed, and the old tradition of lunch time closing and early closing on Wednesday is observed by many.   Everyday needs are amply provided by the quaint little specialist stores,  small supermarkets and farm shops. Late night convenience store shopping  up to 10.00pm is available in Ash and Sandwich . Thursday sees the weekly morning Market, which includes WI produce stalls, and lively auctions from the Quayside sale rooms. If you want large chain stores and big brand names then Canterbury is just 25 mins by car, and the huge discount Designer Outlet, McArthur Glen at Asford is 40mins while Dover’s de Bradelei Wharf factory outlet stores are 15 mins.
